Coupled wit'h the fact that they are pale-skinned and bearded has led to a significant amount of speculation that the legend of the Moon-Eyed People represents a Cherokee folk memory of contact with a group of European settlers who made it to the new world before Columbus. That's where the Cherokee legend of the Moon-Eyed People has been matched up with the Welsh legend of Prince Madoc.

We are always looking for a mirror onto ourselves. Trying to understand who we are. Everybody goes about this differently. I think my way is to make things. I think I am looking for a dialog, a sounding board. I am attracted to drawing for its simplicity. For me a brush and water based carbon black ink are a very natural choice for finding that place where images can quickly build into conversations and generate a sense of meaning and understanding or if I am lucky more questions. This might also explain why I am attracted to the ubiquitous “sticky notes”. They are diminutive and unassuming and have a certain self effacing jot or doodling quality to them almost as if they were not ends in themselves but links to more dialog.
Likewise I gravitate toward the immediate availability of used materials or found objects if I am sculpting, and the colors indigenous to those objects. Often I will attempt to exhaust the resources I have on hand, and allow their availability to make formal choices. I find this “challenge” a good way to remain involved in the work as oppose to just being able to have an endless supply of material generating itself from some big box store in the sky. I also see where this game provides an aperture or filter and clarifies the general fog of making creative choices.

I was going to write about sunglasses or eye enhancements on anti heroes as a forms of dissent and how the physiology of subject and object is changed by the use of these ophthalmological props. I am thinking about The Matrix and They Live. Sunglasses also feature highly in Grant Morrison's work. Grant Morrison is a well know author of contemporary hero comics like New X-Men, Fantastic Four, All-Star Superman, and Batman. He has breathed new life into the genre by deconstructing it. The Invisibles stands out in my mind as his most peculiar creation-"The plot follows (more or less) a single cell of The Invisible College, a secret organization battling against physical and psychic oppression using time travel, magic, meditation, and physical violence.[2]" -wiki on "The Invisibles" I was going to write about this, then I started looking at the artwork associated with this body of work. I thought the great writing was wasted on the art end of the graphic novel as a vehicle. Some of it actually does break with classic mainstream cannon. But most of the art while skillfully executed, is so goofy at best. The down fall of modern comics writing is along the lines of UFO theories. While it maybe entertaining to speculate how aliens pee on such extended journeys from their home planets, it is really unproductive in attempting to understand the phenomenon as a whole. In general the art is such a flat practical response to characters, that the phantasm of inspiration becomes neutered on a character in a knitted polo and cross trainers. They are not even brand specific. I would say you can really see how the artist see themselves through generalized cliche constructs of place and character study elements like clothing, but the artist aren't even looking at themselves, or specific features from life in general. They are drawing from interpretations of interpretations. That could be the biggest problem, maybe with illustration education in general. Think moms basement as studio, bedroom community as multi-verse! Gated stucco hives as halls of justice! And for god sakes please stop non-ironically using "gem tones" to color them with. Step away from the web only palette. Remember if your trying to be subversive subtlety is a good start. Thank you and good night, I be here all week.

Mistletoe is an interesting plant. It is a nesting haven for Spotted Owls,Marbled Murrelets, Diamond Firetails,and Painted Honeyeaters, quite a colorful neighborhood. I had friends visiting from a few hours south. We decided to take a bike ride into the midmorning Florida heat to see the bay front on the last day of their visit. I like guiding visitors through my own mundane world as a way to reenergize my attention, and to make that world maybe a little less mundane. The dad is a professional photographer, who actually after 20 years of professional photography still gets excited by translating what he sees. At one point we stopped abruptly in an alley way. My friend started to explain how an abandoned parade float gave the appearance of being an actual pirate ship in a sea of unkempt lawn, as he grabbed a couple of angles. Now every easter when that float is given pirate life again to motor through the middle of town adorned with gratuitous cleavage and bearded accountants, I will always remember its silent run through the sea of beggar weeds...(drawing is a collaboration between the four of us.)

I wanted to see this storm system we have developing off of the coast here. You can tell by the amount of cars with surf boards if there is a tropical air system in town. The skies are clear and the air is still and turgid with moisture. So far no rain, but the waves are a lot stronger. I wasnt going to go down to the sand just peek at the conditions from the boardwalk. When you get that close to rough surf, the salt and coolness of the sand is noticable. I decided to carry my shoes and just get some 9:30 color, put my toes in the water sort of thing. Lots of euro man bikinis and tramp stamped hour glass moms. My path was crossed by a chubby boy, and I got vexed by his body fat and the way he walked to the shore all self absorbed behind white framed blackout sunglasses and hot rod flame board shorts. Boy was walking into the rising sun like he was walking to the mailbox. Then I thought, hes probably the guy who just kicked my ass online in the Rune Scape 2 hours ago.

There is a perception of inequality among the "educated" and the folks who associate education with privilege(by design, and yes very savvy people who wish to keep their stations in life do "conspire"- if you don't believe this, keep moving your checkers around on the chess board) . The institutions of industry who designed public education in America built in a system that would only educate to certain level. Then mechanisms of distrust would sew the seeds against those who chose to expand that education. I think its classic divide and conquer, and a way to keep class ascendance to a minimum.

In the years between 1616 and 1619 there was an epidemic among the natives of the new England coastline. This is given as one of the reasons that the Pilgrims of Plymouth Rock were initially accepted by the natives, so as to form an alliance(Pilgrams had iorn and gunowder) in order to protect their weakened numbers from other tribes further to the west.(more about this plague)(more about the algonquin) What if Earth were a wandering planet captured momentarily by the influence of our host solar system. If so, what a great way to frame the interactions of cultures that defines the times being lived through at the moment. Who is to say that one culture is older than the other or more connected to the origins of it's psyche (that being the same consciousness that formed this prima material origins ad infinitum in the galactic center). It could be argued that because the "Indians" had a certain efficiency built into their subsistence and a relationship to place that made allowances for resource renewal, that this would give them a higher standing on a scale of continuity of origin. The Europeans had formed a newer relationship with the daemons of "technology" and an alliance with the intelegence of this particular star, much like domesticated canines have a certain bioengeneering flexability that allows for spontaneous genetic adaptation, (genetics being deus ex mechinade riguer) Europeans were able to adopt more efficient measures of resource aquisition and just had wittier (not necessarily a good thing) responses to the question of survival. Like the story of Jefferson, I love the serenity of widerness, but the courtly vices sure do make for some wonderful mind-gasms. Unfortunately these elaborate barrell of monkey resolutions create effluence quicker than could be metabolized by their environment. Earth rolling east this older conscious is passing through the microbes(humans) influenced by the Archonic aspects attributed to this part of the galaxy... There is a galactic center that influences earthling (maybe all particles associated with this mothership rock) thought and action, and its influence fluctuates depending on the relationship to the galactic center. The chance meeting between the Pilgrim and the "Peoples of the First Light" is the result of whole cultures developed under different ages of galactic centric or Solar centric influences. True grit is an echo of its original. By original, I do not mean the movie of the same name produced at an earlier date. I mean the movie "Dead Man". How does Dead Man , True Grit and a thread in a facebook post relate to each other. They are all dark and end with a pall of indiference...sublimely so. There was a girl named Maria Black who attended the middle school I went to. She was very pretty. She was also crazy. She threw my friend down a flight of stairs at school. I saw a red bikini top against olive skin and black hair shine with wet. I saw it bob with washing white water. She was alone, impaled wave after wave. I watched her grow weak. Slowly her strength drain. With every wave another few feet further. I watched and did nothing. I felt the same force on my legs pull me through grains of sand loose in the slur of froth. Finally a man swam to her with a cheap foam body board. She took it immediately, exhausted. As she came to shore, I commented that I couldn't tell if she needed help, and she explained. She explained how she suddenly felt no bottom. She swallowed water in her panic. As she told the story , I could see she had bright green chewing gum in her mouth. Thinking about it later made me think of a museum trip to Isis' temple at the MET in New York. I remember walking around sarcophagi decorated with what I took for hieroglyph equivalents to formulas for eternal life, yet the moths of tourist that circled these artifacts behind vitrines with me, were so absorbed in their handheld devices, texting, tapping glass faces.
